STATIC ELECTRIC FIELD

Vector Analysis-Coulomb’s law- Electric Field intensity due to a point charge, Line charge and sheet of charges- superposition property-Electric potential: Potential due to a point charge, Line charge and dipole – gradient of potential – Electric Flux density-Gauss Law and its applications –divergence of flux density- Poisson’s and Laplace Equations.

DIELECTRICS & STEADY ELECTRIC CURRENT

Dielectrics-polarization-Method of Images-Dielectric boundary conditions-Capacitance: parallel plate, isolated sphere, spherical shells, co-axial cylinder-energy and energy density in a capacitor-energy in the charged distribution. Current-current density-point form of ohms law-continuity equation for current- Duality of current density and electric flux density.

STEADY MAGNETIC FIELD

Biot-Savart’s law-Ampere’s Circuital law-Magnetic field intensity and flux density-Magnetic field intensity due to current carrying wire, square and circular loops- boundary conditions –Lorentz’s Force equation –Force between two wires and torque: Design Thinking Approach.

Faraday’s Law-, Displacement Current- Maxwell’s Equation in integral and differential form for steady and time varying fields- Poynting vector and power flow-Scalar & vector magnetic potential.

ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES

Derivation of wave equation-uniform Plane waves, Applications – Maxwell’s Equation in Phasor form –Wave Equation in Phasor form-plane waves in free space and in homogenous material. Wave Equation for a conducting medium- plane waves in a lossy dielectrics – Depth of penetration.
