Coupling and Joints
4. Design and sketch protective type C.I flange coupling to transmit 10KW at 250rpm. The permissible shear stress for key, shaft, and bolt as 50N/mm2.Take crushing stress of key as 90N/mm2 and shear stress for C.I as 14N/mm2.Assume maximum torque is 30% higher than mean torque. 5. Design and draw a Bushed pin Type flexible coupling for a steel shaft transmitting 15 KW at 200 r.p.m and having an allowable shear stress of 40 MPa. The working stress in the bolts should not exceed 30 MPa. Assume that the same material is used for shaft and key and that the crushing stress is twice the value of its shear stress. The maximum torque is 25% greater than the full load torque. The shear stress for cast iron is 14 MPa. 6. A socket type cotter joint is to be designed for a pull of 32KN. A steel having the following maximum permissible stresses is used. Permissible stress in tension 56N/mm2, permissible stress in compression 70N/mm2 and shear stress 39N/mm2. 7. A socket type cotter joint is to be designed for a pull of 32KN. A steel having the following maximum permissible stresses is used. Permissible stress in tension 56N/mm2, permissible stress in compression 70N/mm2 and shear stress 39N/mm2.
